question about camcorders and the high definition and ditital still?

am after buying a camcorder today,does it matter about the high definition and the Digital still,do they make the picture more clear and perfect.there is loads of camcorders in the catalog with a line through where it says high definition and digital still and only a few with like 1080 and 720 high definition and 5mp digital still but just don't no if it really matters about having that.

You can get cracking results from most camcorders these days,even in standard def (which is what most broadcasters use, if you watch coronation street or the evening news, all standard def) but there is no doubt that on a big screen, say 40" or above, high definition does make a difference.
