What happened to My Canon Digital IXUS i zoom?

After I went to MENU And the yellow part( with the hammer picture), I went to the FORMAT button and I clicked it. It was nothing so I just went back to the album thing. But everything got erased. I had some pictures on PROTECT but everything got erased. CAn anyone help me???

format means to completely erase and reformate the memory card. so even a protected image will be deleted, unfortunatly there is no way to get your deleted images back
